UBUHLEBEZWE MUNICIPALITY CONDUCTS ROAD SAFETY BLITZ
Ubuhlebezwe Municipality Community Safety department in partnership with Road Traffic Inspectorate and the SAPS Vehicle Theft Unit embarked on a “Hamba Kalula/ Thath ‘Iskorokoro/ Phezukwabo” programme The Thath’iskorokoro/Phezukwabo project was initiated in response to the number of fatal accidents by public transport on the Provinces roads. The enforcement covered and will continue to cover general roadworthiness of public transport and freight vehicles, the identification and recovery of stolen vehicles, permit compliance and fraudulently obtained vehicle/driver documentation.
On the 31st of July, the Blitz concentrated its efforts on the Metered Taxi’s operating in and around the town of 27 Vehicles Tested for roadworthiness 14 of the metered taxis were suspended from public roads. Ubuhlebezwe Mayor Cllr ZD Nxumalo has welcomed the increased vigilance of the community safety department along with other stakeholders “I applaud our traffic officers for ensuring that all transgressors are brought to book. The high visibility of our traffic law enforcement will continue to be the order of the day as part of maximising law enforcement on our roads. This will send a strong message to all road users that non-compliance to traffic rules will never be overlooked and will not be compromised.
