UBUHLEBEZWE MAYOR UNVEILS R74 MILLION PROJECT
Ubuhlebezwe Municipality in partnership with the Kwa -Zulu Natal Department of Human Settlements held a sod-turning ceremony in Ixopo on the 20th of August 2019 in an effort to expand access to housing to the residents of the municipality; Ubuhlebezwe Mayor Cllr ZD Nxumalo unveiled the whopping R74 Million Community Residential Unit which will contain 150 units which will also contain a park for residents at an estimated time of 18 months.
The Mayor alluded to the fact that the inception of this project emanated from a gap that the council of Ubuhlebezwe was trying to close between the middle class and low-cost housing projects, “This community residential unit project is a first within the Harry Gwala District which shows the commitment of the government in providing dignified shelter for our people the CRU Programme aims to facilitate the provision of secure, stable rental tenure for lower-income individuals and provide a coherent framework for dealing with the many different forms of existing public sector residential accommodation, this project will also create much needed job opportunities for the unemployed and in addition assist the municipality to raise revenue while also having another economic spin-offs.
