PUBLIC NOTICE

In accordance with Section 73 (1) of the Local Government Municipal Structures Amendment Act 3 of 2021 that guides the establishment of Ward Committee structures within 120 days after the council inauguration.

TO BE APPOINTED AND SERVE AS A MEMBER OF A WARD COMMITTEE, A PERSON MUST:

  • Be registered as a voter and resides in that ward.
  • Be a permanent resident and hold a South African Identity document.
  • Be able to read and write.
  • Not be a municipal official.
  • Have a role in changing people’s lives and be active in the sector she/he represents.

CATEGORIES OF DIVERSE SECTORAL REPRESENTATION THAT A MEMBER MAY BE APPOINTED TO REPRESENT:

Development of youth and sport, senior citizen, disability, arts and culture, religious, agriculture, business and local economic development, safety and security, transport, men and women, education, farm dwellers, rate payers, traditional leadership, social welfare etc.

Once the registration process is finalized, the public will be notified on how election processes will unfold in all 14 wards of Ubuhlebezwe. The community is urged not to politicize the process.

In preparation for the above-mentioned election process Ubuhlebezwe Municipality invites organized structures/interest groups to register in order to update the municipal stakeholders’ register, encourage partnerships and the integration of programmes.

For the interest groups to qualify for registration, they must have a Constitution or Terms of Reference which entails relevant information such as name of the organization, sector, office bearers and period of existence.

Registration of interest groups are valid for 14 days starting from the date of receipt of this notice.  Registration forms will be available in the following municipal public facilities: Ubuhlebezwe Social Development Office (white house next to Ixopo Primary) and Highflats Thusong Center.
