PUBLIC NOTICE: CLOSING OF IXOPO CEMETERY DUE TO SHORTAGE OF LAND

 

Ixopo cemetery is running short of space for burial. However, the cemetery remains ready for, in appropriate circumstances, the second internment. Residents are encouraged to consider other options to save as burial space, such as second interment in accordance with the municipality’s Cemetery Bylaws.

 

The Bylaw makes provision for multiple interments in one grave on condition that an application is made to the municipality and written permission is granted.

 

In spite of this, Fairview Cemetery is available for those who do not have alternative space, the Municipality has reserved a small portion of land at Fairview Cemetery for the burial of indigent and paupers only. Residents are advised to use alternative spaces, such as church yards, cremation, etc.
